A Memorial Service is often held in place of a traditional style funeral service.

The difference between the traditional service and the memorial service is the coffin is not present at the memorial service.

There may be many reasons a family choose to hold a memorial service, this may include the deceased’s request for a private family only service followed by a public memorial service.

There is no formal structure to the memorial service, people tend to have a more relaxed style service which can include a DVD presentation of the life of the deceased. Favourite music can be included along with friends and family delivering memories of their relationship with the deceased.

Because there is no coffin present at the memorial service the venue selection is far greater for families. You may decide to hold the service at home in the back yard with a BBQ afterwards, a favourite spot at the beach or any other meaningful location.
